A unique new pet business recently started out of Waverly, N.Y. At Your Door Mobile Dog Grooming provides convenient grooming services for your dog right outside the comfort of your home in their state-of-the-art trailer.
At Your Door Mobile Dog Grooming currently services Tioga, Chemung and Broome Counties in New York as well as Bradford County in Pennsylvania. Owner Randy Keene officially hit the road with his mobile business in early December 2013. After months of preparation, including graduating from Cindy’s Canine Companions Dog Grooming program in Rehrersburg, Pa., Keene’s new business was ready to roll.
Following 25 years working in the fields of industrial supply and management operations, Keene combined his talents with his lifelong love for dogs, and started the business with his wife, Michelle. Keene’s desire to make a difference in the lives of dogs also led to the decision of leaving the private work sector to start his own business.
Keene credits a small business loan and assistance from the Tioga County Industrial Development Agency as instrumental in helping get the business up and running. In addition, membership in the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce has helped promote the new venture.
The concept of mobile dog grooming may be relatively new to this area, however similar businesses do exist throughout the U.S.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for professional dog grooming services is projected to increase as much as 20 percent by 2016, which is a reflection of not only a growing dog population, but also an undying love of dogs as pets. Randy and Michelle Keene have four dogs at their Waverly home, a good example of how much dogs are loved.
At Your Door Mobile Dog Grooming includes full service options such as brush out, bath, fluff dry, sanitary trim, ears cleaned, nails cut, pads trimmed and hair cut and styled. Keene’s service also offers bath and brush only, as well as a combination of the other options. Keene shared that he is open to service any size dog, and pets are never caged.
Keene commented that prospective customers should consider choosing mobile dog grooming for many reasons. Owners save time traveling, and dogs don’t have to worry about taking stressful car rides elsewhere. Busy families and business professionals will also find mobile dog grooming helpful to work into their schedules. Keene suggests mobile dog grooming as a perfect option for senior owners or other owners who have difficulty traveling.
“Mobile dog grooming is especially helpful for older or fragile dogs,” he explained.
