65 employees in Owego affected by Lockheed Martin layoff
On Nov. 6, Lockheed Martin's Mission Systems and Training (MST) business area notified 587 U.S. employees that they will no longer be employed by the company as a result of a reduction in force. Of this number, 65 employees were affected at the Lockheed Martin facility in Owego, N.Y.
In a statement by a Lockheed Martin spokesperson on Wednesday, that stated, "This action, which was announced on Oct. 16, is necessary to address continuing challenges in our business environment, including continued uncertain program funding, delays in contract awards and an extremely competitive market."
The current population of employees at the Owego, N.Y. facility is approximately 2,600.
