A franchisee of the Applebee's chain of casual dining restaurants is looking to bring a franchise to Athens Township.

TLC Central LLC, a subsidiary of Buffalo, N.Y.-based franchisee T.L. Cannon Companies, has applied for a restaurant liquor license for an Applebee's at 500 North Elmira St., the former site of the DeSisti Trailer Court across from Walmart.

T.L. Cannon marketing and public relations director Stephanie Griffin confirmed Tuesday that the company is looking at the Elmira Street site. Company officials are in the process of submitting plans to the township, she said.

"It's definitely in the early stages," Griffin said. "We've been looking at Sayre for a very long time. We're very excited."

Athens Township zoning officer Edmund Reid said the township hadn't received plans for the site as of Tuesday afternoon. However, Reid hoped the plans would arrive by April 14, the deadline for the plans to be considered at the planning commission's May meeting.

T.L. Cannon Companies owns about 60 Applebee's franchises in New York and Connecticut, including local franchises in Elmira, Vestal and Ithaca, N.Y. The Athens Township franchise would be the company's first in Pennsylvania.
