The Athens Township board of supervisors Wednesday granted approval to several subdivision and land development plans.

In addition to residential subdivisions, supervisors granted preliminary and final plan approval to land development at the Horn Chiropractic property on Route 220 and granted preliminary approval for Inspection Oilfield Services to develop land at Cayuta Street and Shepard Road.

Approval for the IOS location was contingent upon seven deficiencies in the plans being met, supervisors said. Planning commission chair Scot Saggiomo said the deficiencies were mainly administrative in nature.

Supervisors also granted final plan approval to the Microtel Inn and Suites on Elmira Street. The completed hotel opened in October.

Supervisors also re-approved the subdivision for a proposed Walmart Supercenter to be built on Elmira Street, near the site of the current store.

Project developers had previously requested a 90-day extension because they needed additional paperwork, including a highway occupancy permit from the state Department of Transportation, before the project could proceed. Supervisors granted the extension Aug. 29.

Because the extension ran out before Wednesday's meeting, the board was required to re-approve the plans, said township secretary Robin Smith.

Supervisors agreed to schedule the township's 2013 reorganization meeting for 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7. The planning commission will meet at 7 p.m. that day, Smith said. Supervisors also agreed to continue meeting at 7 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month in 2013.

The planning commission seeks interested township residents to fill a vacancy resulting from the recent resignation of Jean Stromick, Saggiomo said.

Saggiomo encouraged residents interested in serving on the commission to attend Monday's meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 3. Those interested may also call the township office at (570) 888-2325.
