Athens Twp. hears from Geokinetics
ATHENS TWP. - Athens Township supervisors heard from representatives of Geokinetics Wednesday regarding the company's plans for seismic testing in the township.
In the end, the supervisors agreed to have the park commission review the information presented and make a recommendation to supervisors.
According to Terry Roberts, permit agent for Geokinetics, the company needs the permission of the township for the testing. They're doing the work in the area, from Warren Center to the Sayre/Athens area, he said. Tony Ottaviani, another representative of the company, accompanied him.
In Athens Township, he said, the work would take place everywhere, including Round Top Park.
He said the information from the seismic testing is provided to gas companies. "We're just looking for the different layers of the Marcellus (Shale) so a geologist can look at that and interpret how the gas is going through the rock," he said.
He told the supervisors that his company respects the land and he promised there would be no damage, such as rutting.
He said another company had done this type of work in the past and caused damage like rutting. Concerns over this experience were brought up at the meeting.
