Boy struck by pickup truck in Towanda
A five-year-old boy was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital Friday afternoon after he was struck by a pickup truck in Towanda.
The boy darted out into traffic on Merrill Parkway near its intersection with Mix Avenue and was struck by the vehicle at about 1:15 p.m. Friday, said officer Brian Bellows of the Towanda Borough Police Department.
The boy had been following another juvenile, who had already crossed the parkway and was uninjured Friday, Bellows said.
Guthrie Air flew the boy to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre as a precaution, Bellows said. He said he did not know whether the child's injuries were life-threatening.
Bellows said Friday that police believed the driver of the truck was not at fault and would likely not be charged. Police continue to investigate the accident, he said.
Towanda and North Towanda fire departments and Memorial EMS also responded to the scene.
