Bradford County Commissioners award bids for upgrades to county buildings
At their most recent meeting, the Bradford County commissioners awarded a bid for the replacement of the Bradford County Library's roof, and also awarded additional bids for materials needed for the county's planned office building at 200 Main St. in Towanda.
The commissioners voted to accept the bid to replace the library's roof that had been submitted by Atlantic Coast Contracting Group Inc.
Atlantic Coast will be paid $57,688 to replace the roof, the commissioners said.
Atlantic Coast had submitted the lowest of five bids for the project.
The engineering work that was needed for the replacement of the library roof has already been completed. Larson Design Group of Williamsport did the engineering work for the roof project at a fee of $4,650.
The county will spend much less on the roof replacement than had been anticipated, Bradford County Commissioner Doug McLinko said.
The total amount that the county will spend on the roof replacement project - which consists of Atlantic Coast's fee and Larson Design Group's fee - is substantially less than the $100,000 that the county had set aside for the project in the county's 2010 budget, county officials said.
On Thursday, the commissioners also awarded bids for additional building materials needed for the renovation project at 200 Main St. in Towanda, which will become an office building used by the county.
Specifically, the commissioners awarded a $45,444.81 bid to C.C. Allis and Sons Inc. of Wyalusing for general construction materials for the renovation project.
The commissioners also awarded a $4,309.46 bid to C.C. Allis and Sons for plumbing materials for the renovation project.
And the commissioners awarded a $12,109.17 bid to Denney Electric of Wellsboro for electrical materials for the renovation project.
Bradford County Commissioner Mark Smith said the renovation project is proceeding within budget.
The commissioners also accepted the sole bid submitted to replace the emergency generator at the Bradford County Courthouse.
The $46,877 bid was submitted by FM Generator Inc. of Canton.
The courthouse's existing emergency generator cannot provide enough power to meet the courthouse's needs, Smith said.
Last year, the courthouse had sought bids for a new generator, but the bids came in "really high," Smith said.
The specifications for the generator were changed, and the project was re-bid this summer, he said.
