Dr. Andreas Lackner will replace Bob Fillnow as the president and chief executive officer of Global Tungsten & Powders Corp., effective immediately, the company announced in a press release issued on Tuesday.

Lackner previously held a management position at the Plansee Group, which is the parent company of GTP, but had not been employed within GTP itself, said Craig Rieder, director of human resources at GTP.

Global Tungsten & Powders Corp. has its main manufacturing facility in Towanda, which employs about 900 people, and also has a smaller operation in the city of Bruntal in the Czech Republic, which employs about 70, Rieder said.

Lackner will be based in Towanda, Rieder said.

Rieder said he did not know if there are any new plans or policies that would be implemented at GTP by Lackner.

Rieder said he did not have much information about Lackner, as the announcement of his appointment only took place on Tuesday.

Rieder said that as far as he knows, the appointment of Lackner was the only management change that was being made at the Plansee Group at this time.

"The board of directors/supervisory board of GTP appointed Dr. Andreas Lackner as president/chief executive officer of Global Tungsten & Powders Corp. (GTP Towanda) and executive director of ... GTP Bruntal replacing Bob Fillnow as of today," states a press release that was issued Tuesday by Michael Schwarzkopf, chairman of the board, Global Tungsten & Powders Corp.

"On behalf of the board of directors/supervisory board we thank Mr. Fillnow very much for his support during the first year of integration into the Plansee Group," the press release states. "We wish Mr. Fillnow the best for the future and congratulate Dr. Lackner (on) his new assignment.

"As of Dec. 1, 2009, the officers of GTP Towanda are Dr. Lackner (president/CEO), Andreas Schwenninger (CFO) and Eric Rowe (assistant treasurer). The executive directors of GTP Bruntal are Dr. Lackner and Mr. Schwenninger," the press release said.

Rieder said he was not sure why Fillnow was leaving the company.

Attempts by The Review to reach Fillnow for comment on Tuesday were unsuccessful.

The Plansee Group, which is based in Reutte, Austria, purchased GTP in 2008.

Boldness must arise locally to save roads

It's nearly spring and the secondary roads here are in poor shape. Some of the main roads, as well. It's an annual occurrence. But, this year there is a dramatic difference. More roads are in far worse shape than perhaps ever before, in large part becau
