Lockheed Martin to lay off 600
OWEGO, N.Y. - On Wednesday, it was learned that Lockheed Martin has made a decision to lay off approximately 600 U.S. employees. This decision, according to Lockheed Martin officials, was based on the ongoing uncertainty in Washington.
In an email on Wednesday, Lockheed Martin officials stated, "The ongoing uncertainty in Washington regarding the budget, sequestration and government operations continues to exert enormous pressure on our customers and our business."
The email continued, that after an analysis of the health of the business, they came to the difficult decision that a lay off is necessary.
According to Lockheed Martin, impacted employees will be notified on Nov. 6, and most will exit the business on Nov. 20. There is no word on how many will be impacted at Lockheed Martin in Owego, N.Y., and officials in Owego did not respond immediately to a request for further information.
Lockheed Martin Mission Systems & Sensors in Owego, N.Y. employs approximately 2,700.
