Magic Touch Studio (piano instruction and music theory) opened at its permanent location at 308 York Avenue in Towanda in August 2011.

The Studio will hold its first annual Christmas Recital at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the First Presbyterian Church, 5 Court St. in Towanda. The recital is open to the public. The studio also will hold its grand opening from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at its current location.

Terrie Phillips, owner and instructor, invites Towanda and local area residents to come see the studio first hand.

The studio is thriving in the Towanda area. Twenty seven students fill the studio with music on a weekly basis. Students range in ages from 3 years to senior adults. Phillips comments that the Students are all flourishing and making great progress. The studio has available slots for additional students.

Phillips moved to Towanda from Tennessee in August 2010. The studio moved from locations in the Knoxville and Nashville area prior to that. Phillips graduated from Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, Tennessee in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recording Industries Management. She began teaching piano and music theory shortly thereafter. Phillips studied and taught pedagogy under Celeste Varagona for more than ten years. Varagona is a National Piano Competition Judge and Teacher. Phillips opened her first Studio in 1990. She has been a full time teacher of music ever since.

Phillips trained in classical music (reading notes, dynamics, phrasing, etc.) This knowledge and training is the basis for other styles of music such as jazz, contemporary, Christian and other genres. Some of the composers played by students include Bach, Chopin, Beethoven, and Kabalevsky. These composers represent periods of music (baroque, classical, romantic, and contemporary). The Studio uses Accelerated Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber and other methods suited to each student's abilities and needs.

Phillips has made Towanda and Pennsylvania her new home and hopes to continue to bring music to the area. If you'd like more information, call the studio at (570) 250-8688 or email at magictouchstudio@ymail.com.
