SAYRE, PA - Valley Energy recognized employees for years of service, working safely and outstanding service to the company during the utility's annual awards breakfast in March.

Following a breakfast prepared and served by the utility's management team, long-time regulator technician Leslie "Spike" Merrill of Waverly, N.Y., was recognized as the company's 2012 Employee of the Year Award winner.

Valley Energy president and chief executive officer Robert Crocker presented Merrill with a plaque and praised him for four decades of outstanding service and dedication to the company.

Crocker presented a plaque to another 40-year employee, meter reader David White, also of Waverly, N.Y., who received the company's 2012 Excellence in Safety Award.

Merrill and White were among five employees recognized for reaching years-of-service milestones with the utility in 2012. Others included John Merrick of Litchfield and Nancy Pack of Sayre, both with 10 years of service, and Steve Place of Towanda, who has completed 30 years with the company.

In addition, safe driving awards were presented to the following during the awards ceremony: Marjorie Johnston, Nancy Pack, Kathy McCutcheon, Luanne Nolan, Ed Rogers, Mike Lohmann, Ron Chandler, Les Merrill, Michael Hawley, David Farrell, John Merrick, Lori Bennett, Dale Hunter, Adam Middlecamp, David White, Paul Kremer, Tony Jenner, Bob Benjamin, Tony Peterson and Steve Place.

Valley Energy provides natural gas service to approximately 7,600 customers in the Sayre, Athens, Towanda and Monroeton areas in Pennsylvania and the Waverly and Chemung areas of New York state.

The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of C&T Enterprises. C&T Enterprises is jointly owned by Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative, based in Wysox, and Tri-County Rural Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Mansfield. The parent cooperatives provide electricity to approximately 36,000 consumers in north-central and northeastern Pennsylvania.
