CANTON - It was a time for change and some controversy in Canton this week.

At its regular monthly meeting, Canton Borough Council accepted the resignation of its street department foreman and hired a councilman - Kurt Bastion, who is in charge of the street department - to replace him as street superintendent.

The resignation was accepted prior to an executive session, and Bastion was named to the position following the closed door meeting.

But after the meeting, tempers flared and things heated up.

The foreman who resigned, George Jennings, showed up while council was in executive session, and then exchanged some strong words with council members after the meeting was over.

The Daily Review has requested a copy of Jennings' resignation letter. Canton Borough Administrator Amy Seeley said the letter will be provided to the Review, along with the borough's response to the resignation letter.
