TROY - Two Canton men have been charged in connection with the brutal assault of a 15-year-old male juvenile outside the Rialto Theatre in Canton in February, according to court papers filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox in Troy.

One of the men, Ethan Stiles, 18, of Crooks Terrace, Canton, has been charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment by Canton Borough Police.

According to the court papers filed by borough police officer Josh Heckman, the 15-year-old victim came to the police department and reported that he had been assaulted on East Main Street at 6 p.m. Feb. 11 in the area of the theater in Canton.

Police have also charged Joseph Robert Wiglesworth, 21, of North Center Street, Canton, in the incident, according to the court papers. Wiglesworth is also charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment.

According to an affidavit, the 15-year-old reported that he had been in the Acorn Market, and upon leaving, Wiglesworth and Stiles, who were sitting in a Jeep in the parking lot of the Acorn, were yelling at him. The juvenile said they swearing at him and calling him a name.

The 15-year-old said he ignored them and continued to walk out of the parking lot and continued west on the sidewalk on East Main Street.

In the affidavit, the juvenile stated that after he passed the theater, the Jeep in which Wiglesworth and Stiles were in pulled up beside him, and Stiles jumped out of the vehicle. The juvenile said Stiles started hitting him until he fell on the ground. The 15-year-old said that after he fell, Stiles started to strike him in the face with his knee and when he was done hitting him, he let him stand up, only to be hit again by Wiglesworth in the face.

The juvenile said this caused him to fall to the ground again, and Wiglesworth then began hitting him while on the ground for a short time after which, he stood back up and both Wiglesworth and Stiles re-entered the Jeep and fled the scene.

Heckman said that 15-year-old was left with a black eye and was in substantial pain as a result of the assault.

Stiles and Wiglesworth were sent summons for preliminary hearings before Wilcox at 1:45 p.m. March 27.
