Canton takes action on motor vehicle ordinance
CANTON - Canton Borough Council this week passed an updated motor vehicle ordinance that does several things.
For much of this year, council has been mulling the matter.
Monday's meeting agenda identified the ordinance as Motor Vehicle Ordinance No. 568.
It eliminates two-hour parking, and allows for a snow emergency in the borough to automatically go into effect, once the National Weather Service issues a snow emergency warning. The ordinance calls for vehicles to be off certain borough streets for the duration of the snow emergency.
Those streets are: Fassett Street, North Washington Street, North Minnequa Avenue, Lycoming Street, East Tioga Street, High Street, McIntosh Lane and Clinton Street.
The ordinance update also makes the police parking space in front of the municipal building on East Main Street a regular parking space.
In addition, it sets amounts for fines; sets stipulations for permits for processions and assemblages; and prohibits -based on certain width and length restrictions- tractor-trailer truck traffic, on a cluster of streets in the area of Canton Manufacturing.
According to information from the borough office, this includes the entire lengths of Fassett and Montague streets and East Second Street, between Route 154 and Fassett Street.
In addition, the engine brake ordinance, which prohibits the use of engine brakes, is rolled into the updated ordinance.
