The 27th annual Christmas is for Kids toy drive to benefit the Salvation Army, sponsored by WATS/WAVR Radio, will take place from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, Dec. 15 under the Sayre Theatre marquee.

Choice Radio co-owners Chuck Carver and Todd Bowers and longtime Valley Magisterial District Judge Mike Shaw will co-host the event again this year.

The broadcast, which benefits needy local families, is coming off its most successful year in 2011. Last year, on the heels of the flood, community support came in the form of $70,000 in cash and hundreds of toys, bikes and games.

The program always gets a huge assist from State Line Auto Auction's Major Motion fundraiser, held the day before.

Volunteers from throughout the area assist the broadcast in many ways, from loading and transporting toys to singing and playing musical instruments for the hundreds who stop by the event. Croft Lumber is the program's new corporate sponsor this year.
