Choice Radio's award-winning toy drive for local needy people served by the Sayre Salvation Army is ready for its 24th year, according to a press release.

The release continues:

Radio station officials met with representatives of Peoples State Bank, the presenting sponsor for the broadcast, Tuesday in Sayre to announce the date for the annual community outpouring. Sayre Theatre will once again host the three-hour program, which will begin at 9 a.m. on Dec. 19.

Each year, Christmas is for Kids co-hosts Chuck Carver, Todd Bowers and Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw receive cash contributions and new or like-new toys from community groups and families, while local musicians perform under the theatre marquee.

Last year's broadcast raised $36,000 and collected hundreds of toys for the Salvation Army, all of which is distributed locally. The radio-thon always gets a boost from funds raised at the annual State Line Auto Auction's Major Motion Charity Auction.

Carver said Tuesday that Choice Radio was "happy and proud" to partner with Peoples State Bank for a second year for the event. Peoples State Bank President and CEO Joe Joyce said he had attended the event for many years, and called Christmas is for Kids a "great event for the community" with a wonderful purpose - to help support the needy at Christmas.

Captain Tim Shaffer of the Sayre Salvation Army said that any leftover toys from the event are distributed to children throughout the year.

It's nearly spring and the secondary roads here are in poor shape. Some of the main roads, as well. It's an annual occurrence. But, this year there is a dramatic difference. More roads are in far worse shape than perhaps ever before, in large part becau
