Waverly man charged

Liel R. Stevens Jr., 53, of Waverly, N.Y., was arrested at 7:21 p.m. on Jan. 4 for forcible touching, a Class A misdemeanor, according to a press release from the Tioga County Sheriff's office.

This charge resulted from an investigation of an incident occurring on Dec. 31 during which Stevens is accused of intentionally touching the breast of a 17-year-old female, the sheriff's office said. Stevens was issued an appearance ticket to appear on Jan. 12 before Justice Joseph Fravel, Town of Barton Court.

Minor injury reported

One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 17 on Windfall Road in Alba, said state police at Towanda.

Drivers involved in the accident were Kimberly Quackenbush, 41, no address provided, and Bradley E. VanNoy, 38, of Canton, who weren't injured, said police.

Police said the accident occurred as Quackenbush was trying to cross through the intersection of Minnequa Road and Windfall Road, and VanNoy approached the intersection.

Police said Quackenbush pulled into the path of travel of VanNoy, who struck the right front passenger door of the vehicle with the front of his vehicle.

After the impact, Quackenbush's vehicle spun counterclockwise, coming to temporary rest facing northwest while VanNoy's vehicle came to rest on the north shoulder of the road facing west.

According to police, Quackenbush left the scene after providing VanNoy with insurance information, driving to Troy Hospital. VanNoy drove back to his residence. No vehicles were at the scene upon police arrival.

Police said a passenger in Quackenbush's vehicle, Hunter D. Barry, 5, of Canton, had a minor injury. Police said Quackenbush was charged.

Vehicle strikes garage in Colley Twp.

Joshua J. Beaver, 21, of Dushore was uninjured recently when the vehicle he was driving flipped onto its roof and struck a garage in Colley Township, police said.

Beaver was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram south on state Route 87 when the vehicle struck a guide rail on the right side of the roadway, police said.

The vehicle flipped onto its driver's side, then onto its roof, before flipping right side up and striking a garage, according to the state police at Laporte.

There were no injuries related to the accident, police said. Beaver was wearing a seat belt, police said.

The accident occurred at 10:55 p.m. on Wednesday, 344 feet west of Reaser Mountain Road, state police said.

Man charged with DUI in Towanda

Michael Joseph Hackett, 31, of Towanda was recently charged with DUI in Towanda.

Towanda police said they pulled Hackett over after they saw him fail to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Elizabeth and Main streets at approximately 9 p.m. on Dec. 24.

A test showed that the amount of alcohol in Hackett's blood was above the legal limit, police said.

Besides DUI, Hackett was charged with several traffic violations and driving without insurance, police said.

Hackett, who lives at 229 Lombard St., has been sent a summons which orders him to appear before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on Feb. 3.

Athens man faces drug charges

An Athens man was arrested recently on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Leslie R. Benjamin, 51, of 502 Church St., Apt. 610, is accused of selling Narco, a prescription drug, to an undercover police informant on May 15 at his residence.

Benjamin was arraigned before Judge Shaw who ordered the defendant released on non-monetary bail. Benjamin's preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 12.

Towanda man accused of theft

A Towanda man has been accused of theft by the state police.

According to a press release issued by state police, John Shaw, 24, has also been charged with receiving stolen property. Shaw is accused of stealing items in August from P&N Packing in Terry Township.
