Man faces hearing

John Paul Vanderpool, 25, of RR4, Box 4186, Wyalusing, faces a preliminary hearing on Dec. 18 before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark of Towanda on two drug-related violations for an incident around 10:48 p.m. Nov. 7 on Railroad Street in Towanda, according to court papers.

Vanderpool is charged with possessing a small amount of marijuana for personal use and possessing drug paraphernalia, which was a lighter and a clear plastic baggie, and is also charged with public drunkenness and similar misconduct, the papers note. He was sent a summons.

Man charged with theft

Albert Lee Butcher, 24, with a last known address of RR3, Box 297, Towanda, faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 25 before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark of Towanda on two counts of theft by unlawful taking or disposition and criminal conspiracy for reported thefts this summer on Hettich Road in Towanda Township, according to court papers.

Police arrived at the residence of Clifford Fleming, no age given, on Hettich Road to investigate his complaint that both Butcher and Joanne Boone, no age or address given, had days earlier left his home in two of his vehicles without permission and had since failed to return, according to an affidavit. He also said that numerous items turned up missing from his residence since they began living with him, including two firearms. Butcher's straight bail was set at $50,000, the papers note.

Criminal mischief in Litchfield Twp.

State police at Towanda said they are investigating an incident of criminal mischief that occurred between 8 p.m. on Nov. 16 and 7 p.m. on Nov. 17 on state Route 1057 in Litchfield Township. During the incident, an unknown individual fired paintballs at a residence owned by a 28-year-old Athens woman and at a trailer belonging to a 40-year-old Athens man, then fled in an unknown direction, police said.

Newark Valley man charged with criminal attempt

Donald Edward Corson Jr., 18, of Newark Valley, N.Y., faces charges of criminal attempt, criminal mischief and possessing instruments of crime in connection with an incident that occurred at around 11:14 p.m. on Nov. 17 in Athens Twp., according to court documents filed at Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw's office.

According to an affidavit:

Athens Township police responded to a burglary alarm at Super X laundry on Elmira Street in Athens Twp., and allegedly observed Corson attempting to pry open one of the coin machines in the laundry. Corson was not able to get the coin machine open, and no money or coins were taken from the machine. The damage Corson allegedly caused to the machine was estimated at around $600.

Corson faces a preliminary hearing on Nov. 24, and bail was set at $5,000.

Towanda man charged with simple assault

Johnathon Walter Miller, 28, of RR2 Towanda, was charged with simple assault in connection with an incident that occurred at around 5:47 p.m. on Nov. 16 in Towanda, according to court documents filed at Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark's office.

Miller is accused of striking a woman in the face and throwing rocks at her, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. on Nov. 25 for Miller to answer the charges, and bail was set at $3,000.

Burglary reported in Canton

The Canton Borough Police Department is investigating a recent burglary at Brown's Pharmacy in which prescription drugs were taken.

According to police, it's the second burglary at the location. Police said a burglary occurred there two years ago when a variety of different prescription drugs were taken. And now recently, around 4 a.m. on Nov. 16, someone took a large rock and threw it through the glass in the front door, breaking the glass, police said. The person who entered the store was caught on camera, and is described as a white male between 5 feet, 2 inches and 5 feet, 5 inches tall with a medium build and wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

Police said a second person was also caught on camera who is believed to be about 6 feet and may be wearing a hooded sweatshirt. According to police, three different prescription drugs were taken. Brown's Pharmacy is offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s). Woman charged with DUI

Lisa Marie Benjamin, 40, of RR2, Box 196, Lot 12, P.O. Box 485, Wysox, faces a preliminary hearing at 10:45 a.m. Dec. 9 before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark of Towanda on two counts of DUI and other charges for an incident at 1:45 a.m. Oct. 31, according to court papers.

She is also charged with possessing an open container of beer while operating a motor vehicle on the highway, reckless driving, and failing to drive on the right half of the road, the papers note.

She was sent a summons.

Man faces hearing on assault

Donnell W. Lattimer, 41, of 752 Thomson St., Elmira, N.Y., faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 24 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw of Sayre on charges of simple assault and harassment for a reported incident at the Candlelite Lounge at 12:25 a.m. Nov. 15 in Athens, according to court papers.

Lattimer is accused of injuring Justin Jones, no age or address given, and Christina Jones, no age or address given, by punching them in the face, the papers note.

Woman charged with forgery

Tara J. Richart, 18, of 34 Pine St., Waverly, N.Y., faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 24 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw of Sayre on charges of forgery and receiving stolen property, according to court papers.

According to an affidavit, checks were stolen from a residence in Waverly, N.Y., and, in a statement given to the Waverly, N.Y. Police Department, Richart admitted to taking the checks and forging her mother's name to the checks.
