Gas stolen in Wysox

Someone in a black truck recently pumped $50 worth of gas at the Valero gas station on U.S. Route 6 in Wysox Township and then fled the scene without paying, police said.

This incident occurred between 7 a.m. and 7:05 a.m. on Oct. 17, state police said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the state police at Towanda at (570) 265-2186.

Man faces hearing on possession

Wayne David Fassett II, 33, of Laceyville faces a preliminary hearing at 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 18 before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton of Wysox on charges of possessing a small amount of marijuana for personal use at 6:09 p.m. Sept. 9 at Route 6 and Shummway Road in Tuscarora Township, according to court papers.

The charges were filed following a one-vehicle crash, the papers note.

According to an affidavit:

Police saw a rolled plastic baggie with a green substance inside when they looked in his vehicle. Fassett said the "weed" was his. He was also charged for using, or possessing with the intent to use, drug paraphernalia (the clear plastic bag). In addition, he was charged with a lane violation, driving a vehicle at a speed greater than was reasonable and prudent based on the conditions, and not wearing a seatbelt.

He was sent a summons, according to Wheaton's office.

Woman faces hearing

Cheryl Ann Larue, 45, of Montrose, faces a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Nov. 25 before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton of Wysox on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance for a one-vehicle crash at 3:50 p.m. Sept. 14 on State Route 1001 in Stevens Township, according to court papers.

Larue is also charged as a result of no valid insurance being found in the vehicle, driving a vehicle at a speed greater than was reasonable and prudent based on the conditions, careless driving, and possessing an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle while the vehicle is on the highway, the papers note.

Her blood-alcohol content was .142 percent, according to an affidavit.

She was sent a summons, according to Wheaton's office.

Charges bound over

Charges against Larry D. Raub, 39, of RD1, Box 234, Troy, who is charged for a reported assault at 2 a.m. Aug. 29 at the Tammarack Tavern in Troy, were recently bound over to Bradford County Court, according to Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.

Raub was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and entering the tavern through the rear entrance after having been told to leave and that he was barred from returning by bartender Earl Brown, no age or address given, court papers note.

According to an affidavit:

After returning, Raub approached Jeffery Hush, no age or address given, and told him "you and me have a date outside," and struck Hush on the head, causing his head to turn to the side.

Raub then threw a full punch with a closed fist and struck Sharon R. Hush, no age or address given, on the left side of her face just below the eye, causing her to fall back and to the floor unconscious and bleeding from the mouth. She suffered a broken facial bone. Raub left the tavern and was gone upon the arrival of police.

Man waives charges

Devin L. Sparkman, 24, of 155 Brooklyn St., Mansfield, who is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance and other charges for a reported incident at 4 a.m. Oct. 1 in Sylvania, recently waived his charges to Bradford County Court, according to Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.

Sparkman was also charged with using, or possessing with intent to use, drug paraphernalia consisting of 12 individual glass pipes/bowls with burnt vegetable matter, resisting arrest or other law enforcement, furnishing law enforcement authorities with false information about his identity, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness and similar misconduct, court papers note.

According to an affidavit:

Police were dispatched to a report of a SUV parked on Route 6, partially in the traffic way, in Sylvania, and noticed Sparkman in the back seat. Police believed Sparkman was too intoxicated to operate a motor vehicle safely, and he didn't comply with an order to put his hands behind his back. Police said he resisted by moving aggressively when police tried to arrest him, and didn't comply with repeated orders to stop resisting. It was necessary for police to place him on the ground, where he still resisted arrest.

Firearms act violation at NEB

State police at Towanda said a 17-year-old male was arrested at around 12:49 p.m. on Nov. 2 at the Northeast Bradford School in Orwell Township.

The juvenile allegedly was in possession of a pellet gun and numerous knives on school property, police said.

Police said a juvenile petition will be filed.

Theft in Windham Twp.

A vinyl "Road Closed" sign belonging to Windham Twp. was recently taken from Lix Road, according to state police at Towanda.

The incident occurred between noon on Oct. 29 and noon on Oct. 31, police said, and anyone with information is asked to contact state police at Towanda at (570) 265-2186.

Athens woman charged with DWI

Kara Marie Brandon, 45, of Athens, was arrested for felony DWI at 7:35 p.m. on Nov. 2 following a traffic stop near Fulton and Elizabeth streets in Waverly, N.Y., according to Waverly police.

Brandon was also cited for traffic violations, including driving on the sidewalk and no vehicle insurance, police said.

She was released on an appearance ticket, police said, and is scheduled to appear in Village of Waverly Justice Court at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 to answer the charges, police said.

Man faces hearing

Randy William Dunlap, 23, no address listed, faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 18 before Magisterial District Justice Fred Wheaton of Wysox on felony charges of burglary and theft by unlawful taking or disposition for a reported incident sometime between Sept. 4-7 at the Robert Dibble residence in Terry Township, according to court papers.

Dunlap is accused of taking a crossbow.

Man waives hearing

Patrick Henry Sandor, 46, of Wyalusing, has waived his preliminary before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton of Wysox to the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas on charges of possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance and other charges for reported incidents April 7 and May 13 on Route 706 in Stevens Township, according to Wheaton's office.

He was also charged with manufacturing, deliver, possess with the intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility, according to court papers. He used a telephone line number to set up and complete a controlled substance purchase with a state police confidential informant on April 7, when morphine was involved, and May 13, when morphine and oxycodone was involved, the papers note.

Hearing waived

Justin M. Kipling, 25, with a last known address of 391 Glenn Valley Rd., Athens, has waived his preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw of Sayre to the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas on a charge of retail theft, according to Shaw's office.

Police said Kipling admitted to four thefts of gas totaling $110.07 from Dandy Mini Mart in June and July in Sayre, the papers note.

Hearing waived by man

Norman Daniel Derrig, 48, of 109 Paine St., Athens, has waived his preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw of Sayre to the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas on a charge of theft by deception - false impression for a reported incident Aug. 25 in Athens, according to Shaw's office.

According to court papers:

Derrig did a roofing job proposal Aug. 25. He received $2,000 on the $3,000 proposal. On Sept. 16, the homeowners, Richard and Dorothy O'Connor, canceled the proposal and have not been paid back the $2,000. No work had been completed nor was a building permit obtained or issued.

Man charged with terroristic threats

John J. Kraus, 43, of 105 Vista Dr., Sayre, faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 24 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw of Sayre on terroristic threats and other charges for a reported incident at 11:10 p.m. Oct. 3 in Sayre, according to court papers.

Kraus is also charged with obstructing administration of law or other governmental functions and disorderly conduct, the papers note. According to the papers, police were dispatched to a fight inside the Lehigh Tavern. Police said Kraus yelled at a police officer with obscene language, stopping in the middle of West Lockhart Street to flex his biceps and tell the officer he was going to "get you." After being told several times to stop, he continued and persisted in disorderly conduct after a reasonable warning and request to desist, police said.

Mailboxes smashed

State police at Towanda said a 46-year-old Rome man said his mailbox was smashed sometime between 8 a.m. Oct. 31 and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 on North Rome Road in Rome Township.

In addition, a 65-year-old woman told police that someone vandalized her mailbox by tearing it off the post and throwing it to the ground sometime between 11 p.m. and 12 p.m. Oct. 31 on North Rome Road in Rome Township. Men charged

State police at Towanda said two men were charged after about two pounds of processed marijuana and a digital scale was found in their vehicle at 12:41 a.m. Nov. 5 on Cemetery Road at the intersection with Route 6 in Burlington Township.

Police said Michael Vincent Lawrence, 35, of Greensburg, and Warren James Platts, 46, of Pittsford, Vt., were charged with possession with intent to deliver, simple possession, drug paraphernalia, and conspiracy.

Police said the men were sleeping with the parking lights on, and after stopping to check on their welfare, it was revealed that they were traveling from Pittsburgh to Vermont, and that Lawrence was a wanted person out of Allegheny County. After detecting the odor of marijuana emanating from their vehicle, a search warrant was obtained, and the marijuana and scale were found in the vehicle, police said. Police said the men, who are employed by Great Divide Geo Consulting for gas well drilling, were arraigned on the charges before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark of Towanda.

Man injured

State police at Towanda said Eric Ellsworth, 39, of Canton, had a minor injury in a one-vehicle accident on Route 514 at 5:10 p.m. Nov. 3 in Granville Township.

Police said he lost control of his Chevrolet Silverado after swerving to miss two deer while driving west, and his vehicle went down an embankment off the eastbound edge of the road where it struck numerous trees before coming to rest.

Man cited for disorderly conduct

State police at Towanda said Andrew Connelley, 28, of Elmira, N.Y., was cited for disorderly conduct at his workplace at Oak Hill Veneer for causing fear for employees that served no purpose at 9:45 a.m. Nov. 2 in Troy Township.
