Two charged in assault

Melissa Rae Cobb, 36, of Sayre and Michael Southworth, 37, of Athens, both face charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct in connection with an incident which occurred at around 1:11 a.m. on

Nov. 29 on Stevenson Street in Sayre, according to court documents filed at Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw's office.

Cobb is accused of grabbing Southworth by the shirt collar, ripping the shirt and cutting the back of his neck, which had bloody scratches, the documents stated; while Southworth is accused of grabbing Cobb by the shirt, ripping the right sleeve and leaving red marks and bruising.

A preliminary hearing has been set for Cobb to answer the charges at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2010; a preliminary hearing has been set for Southworth at 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2010.

Columbia Cross Roads man charged with retail theft

Davaun W. Stedge, 21, of Columbia Cross Roads, faces charges of retail theft for a string of incidents occurring from Sept. 16 to Nov. 3 at the Dandy Mini Mart on Spring Street in Sayre, according to documents filed at Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw's office.

Stedge is accused of driving off without paying for gasoline on numerous occasions, the documents stated, with a total value of the gasoline equaling $231.65.

A preliminary hearing has been set for 11 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2010 for Stedge to answer the charges.

Sayre man faces drug charges

Doug Earl Yale, 44, of Sayre, faces charges of manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance and criminal use of a communication facility in connection with an incident occurring on Jan. 24 and Feb. 7 of 2008 in Athens Township, according to court documents filed at Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw's office.

Yale is accused of selling Clonasepam tablets to police agents on those two dates, according to court documents. Yale faces a preliminary hearing at 10:45 a.m. on Dec. 22 to answer the charges.

Athens man charged

Ryan M. Johnston, 23, of Athens, faces charges of the unauthorized use of an automobile and driving while operating privelege is suspended or revoked in connection with an incident which occurred at around 4 p.m.

on Dec. 3 in Sayre Borough, according to court documents filed at Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw's office.

Johnston is accused of driving a vehicle without the consent of the owner, the documents stated.

Waverly man charged with theft

Scott Michael Hurd, 37, of Waverly, faces charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property in connection with an incident which occurred at around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 28 at Wal-mart in Athens Township, according to court documents filed at Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw's office.

Hurd is accused of attempting to steal HP Pavilion Notebook computer from the store, according to court documents. Hurd was allegedly observed by store employees placing the computer outside of the fence of the garden center, the documents stated. The employee told police that they suspected Hurd to be on his way to retrieve the computer when it was recovered, preventing the actual theft, court documents stated.

The computer was valued at $598, court documents stated.

Hurd faces a preliminary hearing at 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2010, to answer the charges.

PennDOT gets tough on gas companies

TOWANDA - The state Department of Transportation is hiring three more inspectors for Bradford County to address the damage on state roads caused by heavy truck traffic and has warned gas drilling companies this week that they will need to deploy all reso
