$5K in cash, items stolen in Towanda burglary

Towanda police said Tuesday they are trying to get the public's help in determining who committed a burglary at a residence at 316 State St. in the borough.

A total of $5,000 in cash and items, including jewelry and clothing, was stolen during the burglary, police said.

The residence is being rented, and its occupants are employees of Geokinetics, police said.

The burglar or burglars forced their way into the residence on Nov. 25, while the Geokinetics employees were at work, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Towanda Borough Police at (570) 265-2522. Callers may choose to remain anonymous, police said.

Towanda man charged with resisting arrest

George F. Allen, 51, of Towanda RR4 was recently arrested in Towanda on charges of obstructing administration of law, resisting arrest, loitering and prowling at nighttime, and public drunkenness, police said.

Towanda police said the charges stem from an incident that occurred at 5:22 p.m. Monday outside the St. Agnes School in Towanda, where Allen was hanging around for no apparent reason.

Police who arrived at the scene said that Allen refused to tell them what he was doing there and refused to provide his date of birth to police, police said. Allen also smelled of alcohol, police said.

When police attempted to arrest him, he struggled, and police said they finally had to use a Taser on him.

Allen was not injured in the incident, police said.

Allen was arraigned that night before Wysox Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton, who set Allen's bail at $5,000.

Allen is scheduled to appear before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on Dec. 23.
