Woman faces theft charge
A Monroeton woman has been been charged by state police with theft by unlawful taking.
According to information filed at Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark's office, Ashley Belle Stranger, 22, has been accused of stealing $5,000 from Timothy Roger Northrup. Reports indicated that Stranger is alleged to have entered Northrup's residence in Monroeton on Nov. 20 and removed $5,000 in cash from the premises.
No injuries reported in accident
No injuries were reported when a car left the road and struck a guardrail on U.S. Route 6 in Standing Stone Township.
According to state police, William Edward Bossong Jr., 51, of Wyalusing, was driving a 2001 Ford Escort east on Route 6 around 2:10 p.m. on Jan. 19, near Claverack. Police said the car left the road and struck the guardrail, rotated counter-clockwise, and struck the guardrail again. The car then righted itself and continued east, before going off the right berm where it came to rest.
Police said that Bossong will be cited as a result of the crash.
Two facing forgery charge
Two people are facing a charge of forgery before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton.
According to information filed in Wheaton's office, Ryan Edward Jeffries, 21, of Tunkannock, and Tara Lee Patton, 19, of Factoryville, have also each been charged by state police with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
Patton is accused of having stolen three checks from Harold Patton, and having forged his signature on them. Jeffries is accused of having received checks stolen from Harold Patton and cashing two of them, police reported. Jeffries was arraigned before Judge Wheaton, who ordered the defendant released on $1,000 unsecured bail. Jeffries' preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 19. Tara Patton waived her preliminary hearing before Wheaton on Jan. 27. Her case has been ordered to Bradford County Court.
Man charged with DUI
A Laceyville man waived his preliminary hearing recently before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on a charge of driving while under the influence.
According to information filed in Wheaton's office, Ralph Eugene Casselbury, 48, has also been charged by state police with driving on the wrong side of the road, careless driving, and failure to wear his seatbelt.
Police reported stopping a vehicle on Nov. 21 that was being operated in an erratic manner on U.S. Route 6 in Wyalusing Borough. Police reported placing the driver, identified as Casselbury, under arrest for DUI after he failed a number of field sobriety tests. Casselbury was transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda where he agreed to submit to a blood test. The test eventually revealed that Casselbury's blood alcohol content was .202 percent on the day of his arrest.
Businessman accused of failing to provide workers' compensation
A Wyalusing businessman has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton to answer a charge that he failed to obtain workers' compensation insurance for his employees from 2005 to 2008.
According to information filed in Wheaton's office, Tony Belcher, president of Belcher and Sons Inc. of Wyalusing has been charged with the above offense by the Department of Labor and Industry, Bureau of Workers' Compensation. Belcher is accused of having failed to maintain insurance against workers' compensation liability or secure authority to operate as a self-insured employer from Jan. 1, 2005, to Feb. 20, 2008.
Belcher is scheduled to appear before Judge Wheaton on Feb. 24.
