State police at Towanda said Zechariah Keener, 21, of Towanda, was charged with terroristic threats for an incident at various times in August 2009 in Springfield Township.

Hit-and-run driver damages Towanda street light

A hit-and-run driver caused substantial damage to a street light in Towanda over the weekend, Towanda police said.

The accident occurred at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, when a white, full-size pickup truck that was towing a long flat-bed trailer was traveling east on Elizabeth Street, police said.

As the truck turned south onto Main Street, the trailer portion of the vehicle struck a lamppost, Towanda Police Chief Mitch Osman said.

The truck broke the light off the lamppost and bent the post, Osman said. The driver did not report the accident, the police chief said.

"It appeared that (the driver) stopped momentarily, backed up, and then continued on," the police chief said.

The vehicle had been seen earlier on Sunday towing the trailer west on Elizabeth Street, police said.

Penelec has since replaced the light, Osman said. He said he did not know if Penelec had to replace the post itself.

The police chief said he did not believe the bed of the truck itself had sides.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Towanda Borough Police at (570) 265-2522.

The land where the incident occurred is owned by 57-year-old Kenneth Cartwright of Shunk, police said.

Towanda man injured in crash

Carl G. Bordenet of Sayre, who was driving a Chevrolet W4500, recently pulled from a stop sign into the path of a Dodge Ram, which caused the vehicles to collide, police said.

The accident occurred at 8:36 a.m. on Feb. 15 on U.S. Route 6, at its intersection with the Route 220 southbound ramp, police said.

Bordenet, 46, was cited for a stop sign violation, police said.

Donald W. McNeal Jr., 35, of Towanda, who was driving the Dodge Ram, suffered a minor injury, police said.

Bordenet and two children in McNeal's vehicle were uninjured, state police at Towanda said.

Lots of other people own white trucks like those "gas company guys" drive and are causing problems the "gas guys" are getting blamed for.

Oh blame it on the gas industry. I'm really glad to see how appreciative the people of Bradford county are. When the economy is good there are no jobs in Bradford county. Maybe this will keep more people out of jail, off of drugs and keep some people off welfare. I cant believe how ignorant some people are, a great reminder of why i left Towanda after growing up there. i miss the mountains and gods beautiful land but not the idiots that thrive in the region

In reference to the truck who struck the light post in Towanda, how about the police check out some of the gas company trucks... they are driving these style trucks and they are the ones lately who seem to be doing all these hit and runs and continueing on their merry way. It's getting a bit ridiculous!
