Towanda man charged with DUI
Aryc J. Hughson, 29, of Towanda RR1 was recently charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in Towanda Borough, Towanda police said.
Towanda police said they arrested Hughson on the DUI charge after they pulled him over for driving erratically and exceeding the posted speed limit on U.S. Route 6.
A test showed that the amount of alcohol in Hughson's blood was above the legal limit, police said.
The incident occurred at 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 5, police said.
Hughson has been sent a summons which orders him to appear before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on Sept. 15.
Man arrested for DUI in Towanda
Nathan Daniel Barrett, 29, of Spencer, W.Va., has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in Towanda Borough, police said.
Towanda police said they pulled over Barrett after they observed him driving erratically on U.S. Route 6 in the borough.
A test showed that the amount of alcohol in Barrett's blood was above the legal limit, police said.
The incident occurred at 1:35 a.m. on July 30, police said.
Barrett, who lives at 104 Spring St. in Spencer, has been sent a summons which orders him to appear before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on Sept. 15.
Monroe woman pleads guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia
Michelle Samantha Cole, 28, of Monroeton RR2 has pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use, police said.
As part of a plea agreement, another charge, namely furnishing another person's urine during a drug test, was dismissed, Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark said.
The charges were filed after a state parole agent had gone to Cole's residence on July 29 to question her about a positive urine test for opiates, police said.
During the visit to Cole's residence, the parole officer found a suspected empty heroin packet, along with a Q-tip and a straight razor, all of which were together in the residence, police said.
Cole pleaded guilty to the drug paraphernalia charge at her preliminary hearing in Towanda District Court on Aug. 18, according to the Towanda District Court.
Cole was sentenced to eight days in the Bradford County jail, and was given credit for the jail time she had served while awaiting her preliminary hearing, Judge Clark said.
Burglaries occur in Overton Twp.
Two burglaries recently occurred at residences on Junks Pond Road in Overton Township, police said.
During one of the burglaries, two to three truckloads of furniture, electronics, tools and other items were stolen from a 71-year-old man's residence, police said.
During the second burglary, items were stolen from a 48-year-old woman's residence, police said.
The burglaries occurred sometime between Aug. 22 and Aug. 27, state police said.
Police said they are don't know the identities of the burglar or burglars.
Anyone observing suspicious activity in the area or a vehicle with loads of furniture near Junks Pond Road between Aug. 22 and Aug. 27, is asked to contact the state police at Towanda at (570) 265-2186.
Anyone with information can also contact 1-800-4-PATIPS. "Name not required, just your information. Anonymous tips may pay up to $2,000," the state police said in the press releases that they issued about the burglaries.
Theft from a motor vehicle occurs in Wells Twp.
State police at Towanda said a theft from a motor vehicle occurred between 5 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. Aug. 28 on Criss and Coryland roads in Wells Township.
Police said someone removed items from the vehicles of a 48-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman.

Money taken
State police at Towanda said someone stole $40 out of two vehicles parked in the driveway of a 50-year-old Gillett man sometime between 7 p.m. Aug. 28 and 6:25 a.m. Aug. 30 on Mottown Road in Wells Township, and fled in an unknown direction.

Man arrested
State police at Towanda said Lino Estrada III, 35, no address given, was arrested as a fugitive from justice at 9 p.m. Aug. 29 at the intersection of Coryland and Baptist Hill roads in Columbia Township due to a warrant of arrest for possession of a controlled substance from Jim Wells County, Texas.
Police said he was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton and placed in the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.
Man faces DUI charge
An out-of-state man was charged recently with driving while under the influence.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Justice Fred Wheaton, Cody L. Maupin, 28, of Benbrook, Texas, has also been charged by state police with operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed, and careless driving.
Police reported investigating a vehicle crash around 3:08 a.m. on July 17 on state Route 706 in Stevens Township. Police said that while speaking to the driver, identified as Maupin, they detected an odor of alcohol. Police said a Breathalyzer test registered .164 percent, and Maupin was placed under arrest for DUI. Maupin was transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda where he agreed to submit to a blood test. The test eventually revealed that Maupin's blood alcohol content was .174 percent on the day of his arrest.
Maupin is scheduled to appear before Judge Wheaton on Sept. 15 for his preliminary hearing.
Woman accused of making false reports
A Towanda woman has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton to answer a charge of making false reports to law enforcement authorities.
According to information filed at Wheaton's office, Kathleen Ann Secules, 44, has also been charged by state police with harassment, and disorderly conduct.
Police reported being contacted by Secules on Aug. 13, who stated she had been assaulted earlier by Barry Reese. Secules said that Reese punched her in the face and threw her to the ground, then fled the scene.
When they later spoke to Reese and Stephanie Jenner about the incident, police said, they indicated that Secules was not being truthful what had occurred. Jenner also said that Secules was intoxicated when the incident was supposed to have taken place, and impeded traffic on U.S. Route 6 in Wysox Township by lying down and standing in the middle of the road. Jenner also said that Secules slapped her while attempting to help her up off the roadway.
Police said they again spoke to Secules, who admitted that she had lied earlier about Reese assaulting her.
Secules is scheduled to appear before Judge Wheaton on Oct. 6.
Man charged with DUI
A New York man was cited by state police recently for driving while under the influence.
According to police, Anthony Joseph Buffa Jr., 35, of Catskill, was also charged with failure to yield to a stop sign, and careless driving.
Police reported being dispatched to a one-vehicle crash around 1:34 a.m. on Aug. 8 on state Route 1043 in Wysox Township. When they arrived at the scene, police said, they spoke with the driver, identified as Buffa, and detected an odor of alcohol on his person.
Buffa was asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests, all of which he failed, police reported. Buffa was placed under arrest for DUI, and transported to Memorial Hospital where he agreed to submit to a blood test. The test eventually revealed that Buffa's blood alcohol content was .152 on the day of his arrest.
Buffa is scheduled to appear before Judge Fred Wheaton for his preliminary hearing on Sept. 15.
Woman charged with DUI
A Williamsport woman has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton to answer a charge of driving while under the influence.
According to information filed in Wheaton's office, Amanda Lee Huntington, 23, has also been charged by state police with operating motor vehicle without insurance, driving on the wrong side of the road, and careless driving.
Police reported patrolling around 1:10 a.m. on Aug. 8 on U.S. Route 6 in Wysox when they observed a 1998 Plymouth Neon being operated in an erratic manner. Following the vehicle, police said, they observed it weave back and forth in its lane of travel.
A traffic stop was initiated, police said, and they spoke with the driver, identified as Huntington. While talking to her, police continued, they observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person, and that she had blood-shot eyes and slurred speech.
Huntington submitted to a Breathalyzer test at the scene which registered .124 percent. Huntington was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to Memorial Hospital where she agreed to submit to a blood test. The test eventually revealed that Huntington's blood alcohol content was .129 percent on the day of her arrest.
Huntington is scheduled to appear before Judge Wheaton for her preliminary hearing on Sept. 15.
Man charged with harassment
A Towanda man has been charged by state police with harassment.
According to state police, Thomas Wiggins Brown, 46, was cited for the above offense on Aug. 30. Brown is accused of slapping another person at Fulmer's Tire Shop in Wysox Township.
Theft reported
State police are investigating a theft from a motor vehicle that occurred recently in North Towanda Township.
Police reported that the incident occurred between 2 and 3 p.m. on Aug. 29 at parking lot of the Edge Fitness Center. Police said the perpetrators entered a parked vehicle and removed a Mio Moov S501 GPS.

Man accused of furnishing alcohol to minors
A Towanda man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of furnishing alcohol beverages to minors.
According to papers filed in Clark's office, Patrick Leon Vanderpool, 22, has also been charged by Towanda police with having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in his vehicle while it was in operation.
Police reported stopping a Chevrolet Blazer around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 on York Avenue. Police said they'd earlier received reports about the vehicle, indicating that the driver and at some of the other occupants were drinking beer and traveling through the area.
When they spoke to the driver, identified as Vanderpool, police said they observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle, and also noted several open cans of beer inside. Police said Vanderpool admitted to purchasing the beer.
Vanderpool's preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 15.
