Woman jailed on forgery charge

A Texas woman was recently ordered incarcerated in Bradford County in lieu of $50,000 bail on allegations she stole more than $3,000 from a checking account owned by a Towanda woman.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Peggy Ellison, 40, of Fort Worth, has been charged by state police with forgery, and access to a device to commit fraud.

Police reported being contacted by Marian Davidson on Jan. 25, who reported that someone had made unauthorized withdrawals totalling $3,230 from her checking account from July 2009 to January 2010. Based on bank statements and other paperwork associated with the fraudulent withdrawals, police determined that many of the payments were made to accounts held by Ellison, as well as someone in the name of Terry Crowder. Police contacted Ellison by telephone, who confirmed that Crowder was her boyfriend. Police ruled out Crowder as a suspect.
