Ralston teen faces hearing on drug charges

Christopher Williams, 18, of 11119, Route 14, PO Box 17722, Ralston, faces a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. June 12 before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy on drug charges after marijuana was found in his duffle bag at 9 p.m. April 27 in Canton on prom night.

According to court papers, Williams is charged with one count of possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance, three counts of possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, and one count of possession of weapon on school property, due to a scalpel being found in the duffle bag.

In an affidavit, Canton Police Officer Joshua Heckman said that while on routine patrol in the area of Canton High School during prom night, he found a blue Bugle Boy duffle bag on the west side of the high school, in the yard. Due to the suspicious nature of the bag, he searched the contents to make sure there was nothing dangerous inside.

Heckman said he found a small metal container with what appeared to be marijuana, along with a small baggie of the same substance; a glass pipe generally used to smoke marijuana; a small grinding drum, three lighters; and what appeared to be a surgical scalpel.

Heckman said he asked Williams on May 4 if the items belonged to him, and Williams stated that they did.

Wilcox said Williams was sent a summons.
