DUI checkpoints planned locally for New Year's Eve

On Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, the state police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints on Bradford County roadways that have experienced a high number of DUI arrests and collisions in the past, police said.

Wysox man charged with attempted rape

Dustin Curt Johnson, 28, of Wysox has been charged with attempted rape, intimidation of a victim, corruption of minors, and indecent assault, police said.

The charges are based on allegations made a girl who said that Johnson had sexual contact with her on several occasions in 2009 and 2010, police said.

The victim was under the age of 13 at the time of the incidents, which occurred in Bradford County, police said.

The victim also said that Johnson threatened her if she reported his actions, police said.

Johnson was arraigned on Dec. 3 by Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark. Johnson was then sent to the Bradford County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Two other charges that had been initially lodged against Johnson in connection with this case - attempted aggravated indecent assault and indecent exposure - were dropped by the District Attorney's office, according to the Wysox District Court.

At the close of a preliminary hearing on Dec. 11, Wysox Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton ordered that the remaining four charges be held for court.

Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned on the remaining four charges on Jan. 14 in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas.

No injuries in two-car accident

A 16 year old female from Laceyville has been charged with failing to yield the right-of-way relating to a two car crash in Wyalusing Borough on Dec. 5 at 3:41 p.m.

The crash occurred on Church Street at its intersection with Marsh Street when the 16-year-old failed to see a 1999 Jeep Cherokee operated by Loribeth Barden, 23, of Rome. The 16 year old then pulled out from a stop sign into the path of Barden and struck her vehicle, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Criminal mischief occurs in Wyalusing Twp.

An unidentified person allegedly drove on the lawn of Camptown Elementary School on the night of Dec. 8 into Dec. 9 between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Police said there was damage caused to the grass.

Burglary occurs in Rome

A 34-year-old male from Rome reported a burglary that occurred as his residence sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 9.

The burglary occurred along Seven Hills Drive in Rome when someone entered the victim's residence and stole money, police said.

Theft occurs in Rome

A complaint was filed with state police stating that between Nov. 28 and Dec. 7 various items were stolen from a property on North Orwell Hill Road in Rome.

The items stolen include a slide in wrecker body for a truck, a wood stove, steel steps, and approximately 100 feet of copper wire, police said.

Window broken in Herrick Twp.

A 47-year-old female reported to state police that a window on the side of her house was damaged by an unknown object on Dec. 7 between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m..

The house is located on the 2000 block of McGovern Road in Herrick Township.

According to police, nothing was stolen from inside the residence and no other damage occurred.

Man arrested after Forksville crash

Douglas Downey, 42, of Port Carbon, Pa., was arrested for DUI following a recent accident on state Route 87 in Forksville Borough, Sullivan County, police said.

The accident occurred at 10:10 p.m. Monday, when Downey drove through a fence and a yard before getting his vehicle stuck in a ditch and wedged against a small wooden bridge, police said.

The accident occurred north of Sullivan County Rural Electric Cooperative, police said.

Counterfeit $10 bill used at Mildred store

An unidentified individual used a counterfeit $10 bill recently to purchase merchandise at the Dandy Mini Mart on state Route 487 in Mildred, Sullivan County, police said.

A similar incident occurred on Nov. 13 at the Dandy Mini Mart in North Towanda Township, state police said.

Vandalism occurs in Monroe Twp.

State police said they are trying to determine who damaged a 71-year-old man's mailbox on Mountain Road in Monroe Township.

The vandalism occurred at 6:45 p.m. on Nov. 9, police said.

Towanda man cited for harassment

Gary Lee Johnson of South Main Street, Towanda has been cited for the summary offense of harassment, police said.

The citation stems from an incident that occurred at 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 on South Main Street in Towanda Township, police said.

During this incident, the 21-year-old Johnson and a 21-year-old woman were arguing over an issue related to their child, police said.

During the argument, Johnson grabbed the woman by both arms as she tried to leave the residence, police said.

The woman suffered a minor injury, according to the state police at Towanda.

A 16-year-old female was charged with disorderly conduct following an incident which occurred at the Towanda Area High School in November 2012. The student is accused of fighting with another student, causing a disturbance.

A 16-year-old male was charged with indecent assault for an incident which occurred in Towanda Borough in November 2012. A juvenile petition has been filed at the Bradford County Probation Department by the Towanda Borough Police.

A 16-year-old female was charged with assault for an incident which occurred on Second Street, Towanda Borough in November 2012.
