Police Briefs 7/3/2012
The following people were recently arrested for driving while under the influence in Bradford County:
Jason Aaron Michaud, 24, of Anchorage, Alaska, on June 29, by state police, on state route 220 in Athens Township. Michaud has also been charged with driving with a suspended license and speeding. Police said Michaud was taken into custody after failing a field sobriety test. Michaud was arraigned June 30 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. Michaud is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw July 10 for a preliminary hearing.
Woman arrested for drug possession
A Waverly woman was recently arrested by Tioga County, N.Y. sheriff's deputies on a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
According to information from the sheriff's department, Heather L. Shaffer, 26, was also charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.
Police said Shaffer was found to have a compound containing bath salts and a hypodermic needle in her possession following a June 29 investigation at Shaffer's residence. Shaffer was issued tickets to appear in Town of Barton court on July 10.
Athens borough police recently arrested a man on a charge of theft by unlawful taking.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Robert Wesley Dawson Jr., 38, last known to have lived in Waverly, was also charged with receiving stolen property and driving without a license.
Police said Dawson removed a vehicle from a borough residence without having permission from the vehicle's owner to do so. Dawson has a suspended driver's license, police said.
Dawson was arraigned July 2 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. Dawson's preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 10.
Towanda woman stopped in Nichols
A Towanda woman was recently arrested by Tioga County, N.Y. sheriff's deputies following a traffic stop in the town of Nichols.
According to information from the sheriff's office, Donna M. Ritzel, 30, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding following a July 1 traffic stop on Main Street.
Police said Ritzel was issued tickets to appear in Town of Nichols court on July 19.
