Police make arrests
Waverly village police recently made the following arrests, according to information from the Waverly Police Department:
Josh S. Saxon, 33, of Waverly, for unlawfully growing cannabis.
Harold S. Robbins, 21, of Waverly, for driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, unsafe backing and criminal mischief.
Jacqueline K. Carney, 43, of Waverly, for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to keep right and on a warrant out of Chemung County, N.Y.
Mary Jane Pettit, 22, of Waverly, for endangering the welfare of a child, following a physical domestic incident.
Police investigate accident
State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Smithfield Township.
According to information from state police, a 2013 GMC Sierra operated by Andrew G. Jelliff, 20, of Columbia Cross Roads, was traveling north on Mac Road when a deer entered the roadway at about 9:30 p.m. June 30. The vehicle struck the deer, which was thrown into a mailbox, police said.
Police cited Jelliff, who was not injured, for speeding, police said.
Drug possession charge
A Sayre man was recently charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance by state police.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Edward Gary Howard, 47, was also charged with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Howard was taken into custody on a federal warrant Feb. 28 at his Sayre Borough residence and was found to have psilocin and a pen case with methamphetamine residue in his possession.
Howard's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 6.
Man arrested for assault
A Sayre man was recently arrested by Athens Township police on a charge of simple assault.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Barry Harrison Keene, 35, was also charged with harassment by physical contact.
Police said Keene was involved in a domestic incident June 29 at an Owasco Road residence.
Keene was arraigned June 29 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $55,000 bail. Keene's preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 9.
Assault charge filed
A Sayre man was recently arrested by borough police on a charge of simple assault.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Alan Blaine Carnrike, 40, was also charged with attempted simple assault by menace, harassment, loitering and prowling at night time and public drunkenness.
Police said Carnrike grabbed, choked and pulled the hair of a female victim during a July 5 altercation at his East Lockhart Street residence. Carnrike ran through several properties on South East Street and South Higgins Avenue in an attempt to escape apprehension, police said.
Carnrike was arraigned July 5 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $45,000 bail. Carnrike's preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 9.
Man charged with simple assault
Alex Castle, 20, of Canton, has been charged with simple assault and harassment for allegedly shoving a 19-year-old Northumberland woman to the ground several times and burning her with a cigarette recently in Canton Township, said state police at Towanda.
Man taken into custody
State police at Towanda said Walter Sidney Yates, Jr., 38, of Troy, was taken into custody and later arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton after police responded to a report of a disturbance at 3:44 p.m. June 17 on Austinville Road in Columbia Township.
Troopers came into contact with Yates, and a check indicated an active criminal arrest warrant of Waverly, N.Y., police said.
Police said bail was set and Yates was subsequently committed to the Bradford County Correctional Facility.
State police at Towanda said three people had injuries of unknown severity in a one-vehicle crash at 8:44 p.m. June 14 on Wetona Road in Springfield Township.
According to police, Sarah T. Mirabile, 19, of Troy, was traveling north on Wetona Road, south of Springfield Road, at an approximate speed of 45 mph, prior to the crash. Police said she left the travel lanes onto the eastern berm, struck a tree with her vehicle's front passenger side, which caused severe damage to the front passenger fender/hood area, and then came to final rest while facing north.
Police said passengers injured in the accident were Elizabeth S. McKay, 40, of Troy, and Sierra L. McKay, 15, of Troy.
Police said Mirabile was charged with a violation of "roadways laned for traffic."
