Police Briefs, May 16, 2013
The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:
Deborah Lynn Songer, 51, of Sayre, by Sayre borough police, on May 11, on South Elmer Avenue in Sayre. Songer has also been charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to an unattended vehicle or property, careless driving and driving without a valid license. Songer refused to submit to a blood alcohol test to determine her blood alcohol content. Songer was arraigned May 12 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. Songer is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw May 21 for a preliminary hearing.
Jeremy Matthew McKenzie, 27, of Towanda, by Athens Township police, on May 12, on Route 220 in Athens. McKenzie has also been charged with speeding, failure to keep right, operating with unsafe tires and failure to drive within a single lane. McKenzie refused to submit to a blood test to determine his blood alcohol content. McKenzie was arraigned May 12 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. McKenzie is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw May 21 for a preliminary hearing.
Louisiana fugitive arrested
State police recently arrested a man wanted in Louisiana for a parole violation.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton, William Eugene Smith, 40, who police said has no valid address, was arrested on Route 6 in Wyalusing Township following a May 12 traffic stop. Police said Smith was found to have a full extradition warrant out of Louisiana for a parole violation regarding sex offender registration.
Smith was arraigned May 12 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Waverly police make arrests
Waverly village police recently arrested the following people, according to information from the Waverly Police Department:
Archie B. Cheely, 34, and Allison M. Cheely, 32, both of Waverly, on May 7, for harassment and endangering the welfare of a child, following a domestic incident that police said occurred in the presence of four children.
Shane M. Rowe, 39, of Waverly, on May 10, on a bench warrant for a petit larceny charge.
Brian Pinkard, 23, of Sayre, on May 10, for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Mathew R. Smith, 18, of Odessa, N.Y., on May 13, for operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating out of class, operating a vehicle without insurance and operating a motor vehicle without an interlock device.
Man charged for harassment
Donald Arthur Pickett, of Sugar Run, was recently charged with harassment relating to a May 7 incident in Wilmot Township.
According to police, Pickett got into an argument with a 74-year-old male from Myrtle Beach, NC. The argument then escalated when Pickett pushed the victim causing him to fall to the ground and suffer a small cut on his shin, police said.

Counterfeit money investigated
State police at Towanda said they are investigating a Jan. 18 incident in Canton Township in which a 38-year-old Waverly, N.Y. woman was provided with $700 in counterfeit money by a tenant as payment for a monthly rental agreement.
Police said the money, seven $100 bills, was confirmed to be counterfeit by the victim's bank and the United States Secret Service, Scranton Resident Office.
A 57-year-old Troy man and a 53-year-old Troy woman told state police at Towanda that someone forcibly entered their residence, while they were not home, sometime between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. May 3 on Fallbrook Road in Troy Township, and stole cash.
A 69-year-old man told state police at Towanda that someone discarded tires and garage on his property in April along Route 6 in Columbia Township.

Indecent assault reported
State police at Towanda said they are investigating an allegation that a 10-year-old girl was subjected to inappropriate physical contact by an adult male known to her between Oct. 19, 2011 and Jan. 21, 2012 in Columbia Township.
State police at Towanda said that David Lee Plerson, 26, of Elmira, N.Y. was cited with criminal mischief after he keyed the vehicle of a 42-year-old Elmira, N.Y. woman, when leaving the bingo hall at 9:50 p.m. April 26 at the South Creek Fire Hall parking lot in South Creek Township.
