Women charged with retail theft

An Athens woman and a Sayre woman face preliminary hearings before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy on charges of retail theft for the theft of $52.45 in gas at Woody's Country Store Oct. 8 in South Creek Township, according to court papers.

According to affidavits, Jody Ann Raymond, 52, of 2420 Pennsylvania Ave., Sayre, was charged with a second degree misdemeanor charge of retail theft, due to one prior conviction of retail theft, and Carole Diane Hobday, 53, of 361 McCloe Ln., Athens, was charged with a third degree felony of retail theft, due to three prior convictions of retail theft.

According to Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Michael Mislevy, Hobday said she remembered that Raymond was driving. Hobday said she got out of the car to pump the gas, and that Raymond got out of the vehicle and went into the store, so she thought Raymond had paid. Raymond said that she didn't remember being with Hobday during the incident.

Wilcox said Raymond was sent a summons, and Hobday's unsecure bail was set at $45,000.
