CANTON TWP. - Rich McNett was pressure washing his truck when a car and a tractor-trailer collided by his home shortly before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night on Route 14 in Canton Township.

"I heard it, and turned around and seen it and that was it," he said.

The driver of the car had a life-threatening injury and was taken by Western Alliance Ambulance to Troy Community Hospital, according to Canton Fire Chief Kim Jennings. The driver in the tractor-trailer wasn't injured.

"I heard the brakes lock up and squealing," said Brandon McNett, who also lives near the scene of the crash which occurred near the intersection with Newell Road.

Jennings said the man in the car was trapped and had to be extricated. It took about 15 minutes to get him out.

When asked for comment, state police trooper Josh Thompson said it appeared that the driver of the car was traveling south on Route 14, went off the right side of the road for some reason, swerved left to correct, spun and went into the northbound lane where the tractor-trailer was traveling. There were skid marks on the road.

Jennings said Route 14 would be closed several hours Wednesday night as a result of the accident.

The names of the drivers weren't available.

Jennings said both vehicles would have to be towed.
