DEP grant for Bradford County Sanitation Committee announced

For its efforts to "properly plan the county's sewage treatment and disposal," the Bradford County Sanitation Committee will be received $95,000 in state grant funds from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), representatives Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) and Matt Baker (R-Bradford/Tioga) announced in a press release.

"The grant will be used to reimburse 42.5 percent of the eligible reimbursement for performing the sewage enforcement provisions within Act 537, and was awarded under the Sewage Facilities Planning Grants Program of Act 537 of 1966," the release stated.

Pickett stated in the release that she was happy the grant will help recoup expenses incurred when the committee updated its sewage treatment and disposal plan.

"This will not only help the committee's finances but will also help prevent the costs from being added to customers' bills," she stated in the release.

Baker stated in the release that an important part of the DEP's mission to help local governments is helping to meet a county's sanitation needs.

"Without state support, many rural counties would not be able to provide their residents with the proper services to treat and dispose sewage," he stated in the release.
