Dining out for Thanksgiving

WYSOX - Some people decided to forgo the cooking and dish cleaning for Thanksgiving Thursday.

They flocked to area restaurants open for the holiday.

At the Riverstone Inn in Wysox, Dolores Beckwith of Rome was enjoying the Thanksgiving buffet.

She decided to eat out to avoid all the work that comes with preparing turkey and all the fixings.

"This is such a pleasure and it's beautiful surroundings," she said as she scooped some turkey onto her plate. "It's something everyone should come to if they can afford it."

Manager Bridget Rice said the Riverstone Inn has the buffet every year, and she thought people enjoyed the service and the atmosphere. She said business was good.

"I think everyone wants a traditional Thanksgiving buffet."

She even noted that some men from outside the area working in the natural gas industry locally stopped by.

"They're here working and aren't with their families."

By eating at the restaurant, she added, people can avoid the stress of planning and cooking a Thanksgiving meal.

"We do it for them."

A.J.'s Family Restaurant in Wysox was also open with a Thanksgiving buffet.

Owner Mary Herman said the buffet is served each year. "I think some of them (customers) are older people, they just don't want to travel anymore, they don't want to cook," she said. "Others want to make it easier on themselves."

Debbie Harbst of Towanda, a customer, said, "I didn't want to cook."

Brandi Harbst of Towanda, who was eating with her, added, "I didn't want to clean."

In North Towanda, Jennifer McGuinness, owner of the Tomahawk Restaurant, said business was good for their Thanksgiving buffet.

People even wanted her recipe for dinner rolls.

Theres just the two of us & we too took advantage of the local resturants buffets. We choose Harkness family resturant, even tho it was the furthest, due to the fact that it was the ONLY one to serve until 6:P.M. John took advantage of his day off & the good wheather to get things done around the farm before Winter sets in so he did not want to stop to eat by 3 P.M.
The food at Harkness was excellent!! The service right on top of things & the price was reasonable.
Plenty of the gas company guys were ther enjoying all the fixins too.
