Double-fatal crash survivor's condition upgraded to fair
A Dushore girl, who was injured in a motor vehicle accident in North Towanda Township that claimed the lives of her father and another man, has been upgraded from critical to fair condition.
Audrey Halbfoerster of Dushore was listed in fair condition on Tuesday evening at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, a nursing supervisor said.
Halbfoerster was a front-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by her father, 44-year-old Scott Halbfoerster of Dushore, when it was involved in a head-on collision on Nov. 20 on the bridge that carries U.S. Route 220 over U.S. Route 6.
Based on a preliminary investigation, the accident occurred when Scott Halbfoerster tried to pass a vehicle in front of him, according to the state police.
Scott Halbfoerster's SUV crossed the double yellow lines into the northbound lane and struck an oncoming vehicle operated by John Ambrosone of Hammondsport, N.Y.
Ambrosone, 65, and Scott Halbfoerster were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Audrey Halbfoerster was transported by medical helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition as recently as Sunday.
According to Scott Halbfoerster's obituary, Audrey Halbfoerster is 7 years old.
No further information was available about the accident from the state police Tuesday night.
