ASYLUM TWP. - A 20-year-old Wyalusing female was killed in a motor vehicle accident at 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday on state Route 187 in Asylum Township, police said.

The accident occurred as Johhnie R. Holder of Odessa, Texas was driving a Ford F250 Super Duty pickup truck north on Route 187, and Andrea L. Turner, 20, of Wyalusing was driving a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport south on Route 187, police said.

As Holder, 37, was negotiating a left turn on the roadway, he traveled off the northbound berm and lost control of his vehicle, police said.

Holder's pickup truck then traveled across the center lines of Route 187 onto the southbound lane, police said.

Turner steered her Jeep to the southbound berm to avoid a collision, but was unsuccessful, police said.

Holder's vehicle struck the Jeep head-on, police said.

The Jeep was thrown off the southbound berm where it came to rest against a tree on its passenger side, state police said.

Turner was killed in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene by Bradford County Coroner Thomas Carman, state police said.

Firefighters extracted Holder from the pickup truck, and also extracted a juvenile male from the Jeep, police said.

Firefighters "had to cut the roof off the Jeep to get the passenger out" of the vehicle, he said.

The juvenile male, who was in a child safety seat, suffered a minor injury, police said. The juvenile male was transported by an emergency medical helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, police said.

Holder, who was wearing a seat belt, was uninjured, state police at Towanda said.

Both vehicles were severely damaged, Keeney said.

The accident occurred approximately one mile from the Terry Township line, said Brett Keeney, first assistant chief of the Wysox Volunteer Fire Company.
