The Waverly Storefront Theater will host the world premiere of the documentary film "The Bigfoot Hunter: Still Searching" this weekend.

The film will be presented on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Broad Street theater.

The movie was filmed locally and features local Bigfoot hunter Tim Holmes, said Jason Gowin, a former Bradford County resident who also appears in the movie. Gowin is a member of the paranormal group Ghost Hunters Inc. and also appeared on the television show "Extreme Paranormal."

Gowin said Holmes is "a rare gem, to say the least." The two met in 2001 and shot the footage that would ultimately become the basis for "The Bigfoot Hunter" in 2006 in the Connecticut Hill area of Alpine, N.Y., about 20 miles north of Holmes' Elmira headquarters.

Joining the men were fellow Bigfoot hunter Becky Sawyer of Searching for Bigfoot East, Nick Foust, Milton Clark, Glenn Richards and Greg Newkirk.

Newkirk, also the film's director, sat on the footage for years before starting to put it together, Gowin said. The end result is "a lot more comedy than a documentary," Gowin said.

Producers from SyFy, A&E and MTV television networks are expected to be in attendance to watch the film, Gowin said.

While he declined to ruin the surprise, Gowin said Bigfoot-related items will be given away at the screenings. Holmes will attend the premiere, hosting a Bigfoot-calling contest and a question and answer period after the movie.

Gowin said that as of Tuesday, very few tickets remained for Friday's screening, with some still left for Saturday. The $10 tickets can be reserved by calling the Waverly Storefront Theater at (607) 565-8714. The doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30.

"Even if you don't believe in Bigfoot, it's worth coming just for the comedic and entertainment value," Gowin said. "Tickets are going very fast."

"The Bigfoot Hunter: Still Searching" is a Who Forted Magazine film and was produced by Fight or Flight Productions.
