Fire damages Springfield Township home
SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP -The acrid smell of smoke was still in the air on Tuesday following a fire that destroyed a house early that morning.
The fire happened at a house at the intersection of Little York Road and Big Pond Road.
According to a neighbor, Bill Camp, the fire started in the garage of the property at approximately 1:20 a.m.
"My dog was making a ruckus, so I got up to take him out," Camp said. "When I took him outside, that's when I noticed that the garage was on fire. I think a car must have caught fire, because I could hear a car horn sound from in there. I called 911, but the place was totally engulfed by the time they got here."
Camp said that the family, who he could not identify, was not home at the time and was on vacation.
"They had just moved in," he said. "I hadn't got a chance to get to know them yet."
Camp said the owner of the house lives in Virginia, but could not identify the owner.
The Ridgebury Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire, assisted by Mutual Aid.
A cause for the fire has not yet been determined as of late Tuesday night.
