A house was destroyed by fire along the Burlington Turnpike Friday night in Towanda Township, said Assistant Chief of the Towanda Fire Department Bill Sheets.

He said the call came in between 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and all seven people who resided at the home were able to get out safe. The Red Cross is assisting the family. Their names were not available.

No pets were injured or killed.

Sheets said the fire was under control in about two hours, and he wasn't certain about the cause. Fire officials think it was accidental, however, he said.

It started in the kitchen.

The home was a single-story wood frame house.

Also at the scene were the North Towanda, Wysox, Monroeton, and Franklindale fire departments and Wysox EMS and Memorial EMS.
