Flooding in Bradford County has caused road closures, evacuations, and the delay of The Daily Review.
Delivery of The Daily Review today is impossible. Papers should be available at several retail outlets in and around Towanda this morning.
Guthrie Clinic issued a statement today that several locations have been closed.
“Guthrie Clinic encourages patients to call ahead to their physicians’ offices because weather makes travel difficult and unsafe,” according to the statement. “The Emergency Department at Robert Packer Hospital will remain open. The ACT Clinic will open in the Family Medicine Department, first floor, red section at Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, PA at 9:30 a.m.”
Closed Guthrie locations include: Troy Community Hospital Rehab Services; The Infusion Center at Guthrie Clinic in Sayre is closing at noon; The Arrhythmia Center at Guthrie Clinic in Sayre; Home Health, Home Care and Hospice has limited staffing, for emergencies please call 570-888-6666 for an on-call nurse; The Dialysis Seminar scheduled for today at 10 a.m. at Guthrie Clinic in Sayre is canceled.
Offices that are open include: Robert Packer Hospital and Troy Community Hospital

Jim Daly, Emergency Management Coordinator for Sayre Borough, said the Sayre Fire Department is notifying East Side Sayre residents of the need to evacuate given the current flood conditions. At around 5 a.m., he stated that the levee was reported at 23.7 feet and is projected to reach 26.7 feet. “This exceeds the protection of the levee,” he stated. He added that Cayuta Creek is very high and possibly flooding along Cayuta Street in Athens Township.
A press release from the Waverly Police Department listed several road closures for Waverly, including: Broad Street (between Johnson Street and lower Clark Street); Lincoln Street (from Clinton Avenue to Lyman Avenue); Liberty Street (Waverly Street to Lincoln Street); and the bridge on Chemung Street (Route 17C) near Cayuta Avenue is closed to all traffic.
“The local Red Cross has open a relief shelter at the Waverly Jr.-Sr. High School on
Frederick Street, Waverly, N.Y., for any one needing shelter,” the release stated.
Michelle Shedden, Chief Clerk at the Bradford County Commissioners, issued the following statements:
“The American Red Cross has opened a shelter at the Athens Township Volunteer Fire Department. Residents from the Wildwood Trailer Park are being evacuated to this shelter. This will also serve as a place of shelter for any Valley residents who are self evacuating.” Residents should bring a blanket and a pillow with them.
“At 1900 hours the Borough of Towanda has declared a disaster emergency. Due to threats endangering the health, safety and welfare of a substantial number of persons residing in Towanda Borough and potential to create problems greater in scope than Towanda Borough may be able to resolve, Garret Miller, Mayor of Towanda Borough, and on the recommendation of the Emergency Management Coordinator for Towanda Borough, is directing a voluntarily evacuation for residents in the affected areas. These areas include the following: Residents and businesses located on the Merrill Parkway.
Area I
Bounded by Farley Connector to Mix Ave along the Merrill Parkway.
Area II
Bounded by Mix Ave to AC Smith NAPA store and Williams Street on the river side to the Merrill Parkway.
All evacuees are asked to go to the Ulster Fire Hall which is the Red Cross Emergency Shelter.
Please bring blankets and pillows and any personal toiletries.”
Additionally, she stated that the courthouse and county offices are closed.
