Voters in Waverly approved a proposition for a new Lincoln Street School, acquisition of 13.36 acres of land in Chemung, an additional eight classrooms at the Chemung School, renovations at Chemung school, acquisition of 8.42 acres of land on Ithaca Street and construction of a new Ithaca Street School.
Dr. John B. Schamel of Waverly will hold office hours three days a week in the office of the late Dr. A.B. Lyon in Ulster.
Percy Arnold of Potterville was in South Warren recently assisting in setting a bulletin board at the church there.
75 years ago - 1935
Completing a 310-mile round trip bicycle ride to Allentown to visit his wife, Albert Kelly, 77, returned to his West Franklin home none the worse for his trip.
Celebrating his 78th birthday today is Fred C. Landmesser of Rummerfield, one of the best known and highly respected men in his community, a former postmaster and merchant.

In 1974, the House Judiciary Committee voted 27-11 to adopt the first of three articles of impeachment against President Richard Nixon, charging he had personally engaged in a course of conduct designed to obstruct justice in the Watergate case.
Five years ago: Al-Qaida in Iraq said it had killed two kidnapped Algerian diplomats. Ahmed Ressam, an Algerian who'd plotted to bomb the Los Angeles airport on the eve of the millennium, was sentenced to 22 years in prison by a federal judge in Seattle. (However, a three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled in Feb. 2010 that the 22-year sentence was too lenient; Ressam's attorney is appealing that decision.)
One year ago: A sailboat with an estimated 200 Haitians aboard ran aground on a reef and sank off the Turks and Caicos Islands; rescuers pulled 113 survivors from reefs but dozens others were missing and feared dead. Michael Vick was reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
