On Jan. 21, 1910, shortly before 11 a.m., the Great Paris Flood began as the rain-swollen Seine River burst its banks, sending water into the French capital for more than a week.

25 years ago - 1985

The students' court at the Towanda High School Senior Ball was comprised of Laura Schelter (queen), Jeff Zalinski (king), Brad Wickwire, Teri Brecher, Cassandra Crain, Amber Crowell, Clifford Judson, Becky Mendler and Mike Root.

Aerobic dancers from the Sayre and Athens are will participate in "Aerobic Dance for Health," a four-hour dance marathon.

Gary Reeves and Marcia Doane were the recipients of the 1984 and 1983 Stray Haven Humanitarian of the Year awards, respectively.

50 years ago - 1960

Two Troy High School seniors, Lee Harkness and William Avery, received the Keystone Farmers Degree in Harrisburg.

At the Farm Show in Harrisburg, Northeast Bradford senior homemaking student Elizabeth Cragle won first prize on a formal gown she made.

A-2c Bill Masuda of Hawaii leaves today for his home after visiting Mr. and Mrs. Howard Aylesworth in East Towanda. Masuda and Aylesworth spent some time together at an Air Force base in Newfoundland.

75 years ago - 1935

Scarlet fever has broken out in South Towanda with 14 pupils and one teacher, Mrs. Muriel Robinson, being ill from the disease.

The Girl Scouts of Troop 1 of Towanda had a surprise luncheon in honor of Mrs. Carl L'Amoureaux, who has been actively connected with the troop and is leaving Towanda.

Clyde Pickett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pickett of Clapper Hill, a student in vocational agriculture at Camptown High School, won fourth place in poultry-raising and fifth place in egg production in the state.
