25 years ago - 1987
Officials of Towanda Borough, Towanda Municipal Authority, Wysox Township and other parties involved will be meeting in a work session next Thursday to try to complete an intermunicipal agreement on the planned area sewer update and expansion project known as the 201 plan.
The installation of new emergency telephone numbers in Penelec's Northeastern Division has been completed with the addition of a line for emergency calls from customers in the Sayre area. The number is 888-2556. The number is designed to provide better emergency service for the company's customers.
For the second time in four days, cancellations and early closings became the order of the day yesterday as steady snowfall, which began in the Towanda area around 9:30 a.m., continued falling throughout the day.
50 years ago - 1962
Greater Valley Hairdressers Association met last Monday for election and installation of officers at the home of Mrs. Fran Kent in Sayre. Kent was named president.
There's at least one rugged individualist left in the United States. He's James Hughson, 80 years old, who passed through Towanda yesterday. A confirmed traveler, Hughson is paying his way by selling shoe strings, accompanied by a cheery smile and a willingness to talk about himself.
Celebrating his birthday today is Newman W. Benson, Towanda automobile dealer.
75 years ago - 1937
Celebrating his birthday tomorrow is Rev. Paul Dale of Franklindale, pastor of the Franklin Center Christian church and the East Granville and LeRoy Baptist churches.
Most of the people in West Warren have their houses wired for electricity, which they expect to have soon.
The Dushore Music Club chorus was awarded first place in the state Music Tournament held in connection with the State Farm Show at Harrisburg this week.
