25 years ago - 1985

State Representative Scot Chadwick visited the Lehigh Valley Shops location in Sayre with representatives of Sayre Borough.

Christina "Kippy" Dawsey of Towanda was named to the fall 1984 semester dean's list at Penn State main campus with a 4.0 average.

Sen. Roger Madigan has opened a district office in Towanda.

50 years ago - 1960

The Bradford County Historical Society adopted a program with a very active schedule for the coming year, including six special programs.

Nine donkeys and a pony are scheduled to leave New Philadelphia, Ohio, this morning, arriving here tomorrow for a donkey basketball game at St. Agnes School. The game will pit a Sayre team against a Towanda team.

The Towanda Rifle team beat last year's league championship IBM team by a score of 1954 to 1938.

75 years ago - 1935

The Bradford Lodge No. 167 I.O.O.F. will hold a special anniversary program Monday evening.

Fresh Pork shoulders, cut picnic style, 16 cents per pound.

Earle E. Armstrong was elected president of the Sayre-Athens Lions Club.

(The SUV's driver, Juan Alvarez, was convicted of murder and sentenced to 11 consecutive life terms.)

One year ago: Timothy Geithner was sworn in as the nation's 75th treasury secretary, less than an hour after winning Senate confirmation. The impeachment trial of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (blah-GOY'-uh-vich) opened in Springfield, with Blagojevich refusing to take part, saying the rules were biased against him.

Idol chatter: Sonestown's Aaron Kelly among top 12 finalists on American Idol

On March 11, American Idol revealed the season's Top 12 finalists. Among those finalists was Sonestown, Pa.'s Aaron Kelly, a 16-year-old whose story of a struggling childhood won over the hearts of judges during audition week last summer in Orlando, Fla.
