Ways to prevent arson was the prevailing theme at a recent meeting of Sayre merchants. Fires which have ravaged a second building in three months in Sayre's downtown area brought the meeting, called by Carl Vallely of the Sayre Economic Development Task Force.
Going into last night's game against Northeast, Towanda Coach Tony Bellanca knew he needed a good defensive effort from his Black Knight squad to take the win. And that's exactly what he got in holding the powerful Panthers to just 37 points as Towanda earned a 51-37 victory.

It was announced yesterday that a radar detail, composed of three men, has been assigned to the State Police substation in Towanda.
The obstetrical floor in the new building of the Robert Packer Hospital opened yesterday and the services were put into immediate action. Four babies arrived in the new section that morning.
Mansfield State College has been authorized by the Pennsylvania State Council of Education to offer liberal arts courses, it was recently announced.
