The York Avenue Zoning Committee met last night to discuss the possibility of trying to direct truck traffic off York Avenue by advising trucks to use the Route 6 and Route 220 bypass.
The first tractor-trailer load of aluminum has been shipped out from the Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority's recently opened recycling site at the Bradford County Landfill in West Burlington. The aluminum brought to the site and shipped out in this first load weighed in at 5.5-6 tons.
Mrs. Nellie Carr of Heritage House, Athens, formerly of Spring Hill, is 104 years old today.
50 years ago - 1962
The Towanda Area Joint School Board last night turned down all three plans submitted for reorganization of Bradford County's school districts under Act 561. Instead the board voted to submit to the County Board a recommendation that the present eight-unit plan be retained.
Celebrating his birthday today is Harry B. Ackley of Macedonia, a painter in the Lehigh Valley Shops for 39 years.
Gene Collins became the fourth member of the Towanda Bowling Association to hit the coveted 700 bracket last night when he made it right on the nose with games of 257-207-236 on the Sport Shop Lanes.

A boy about 17 years old and a student at the Towanda High School wants a place during the present winter term of school where he may be able to receive room and board, for which he is able and willing to work about the place. Anyone to whom this proposition might appeal is urged to communicate with Supervising Principal W. Milton Roy.
Burgess C.S. Lilley announced yesterday that he will hold his annual Halloween festival for the kiddies of Towanda and vicinity on Nov. 1.
Thwarted by bad weather for the past two Sundays, the Towanda baseball team will make another attempt tomorrow to play the schedule games on the East Side grounds with the Old Timers and the Columbia Cross Roads team.
