Athens School Board hired Raymond Tyrrell as interim principal at SRU High School at their regular meeting last night.
After a recent meeting, the Sullivan County Commissioners adopted a resolution requesting the transfer of 1985-86 CDBG funds. The transfer, which needs approval, would allow $33,000 to be used toward the courthouse sidewalk and handicap access project.
The Towanda Booster Club officially completed work on its new concession stand at Memorial Park recently.

Dr. and Mrs. Donald Guthrie returned recently from Europe and Dr. Guthrie left again on the Black Diamond for Chicago to attend a meeting of the American College of Surgeons.
A meeting of the Bradford-Sullivan Bankers' Association will be held today at the Wilbur Hotel in Sayre. The Rainbow Orchestra of Wyalusing will furnish music.
Duncan J. Kerr, president of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, was elected a trustee of the Robert Packer Hospital to succeed the late E.E. Loomis at a meeting of the board of trustees held recently.

A student flunking out of the University of Arizona nursing school shot three of his professors to death, then killed himself.
Five years ago: Stacy Peterson, the 23-year-old fourth wife of police sergeant Drew Peterson, went missing in suburban Chicago. (Her fate has never been determined; Drew Peterson was convicted in Sept. 2012 of murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio.) Fire ravaged a North Carolina beach house, killing seven college students. Argentina's first lady, Cristina Fernandez, claimed victory in the country's presidential election; she became the first woman elected to the post.
