At the beginning of this week, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed a bill making seat belt use mandatory for front seat occupants, according to State Rep. J. Scot Chadwick. Chadwick, who supports the bill, reports it passed by a vote of 129-64.

The Canton Borough Council approved a 5 percent yearly increase for the next three years for Canton Police officers during its meeting for the month of November.

Noted local author Clyde Bresee of Athens recently visited Troy Senior High School. He was invited to speak to Mrs. Olver's creative writing class along with Mrs. Jannone's factual writing and upper level English classes.

75 years ago - 1937

Mrs. Elizabeth Estabrook of Athens was honored at an executive meeting of the Bradford County Women's Christian Temperance Union held yesterday by being elected honorary president of the organization.

The "Last Man's Club" of the Valley held its annual dinner meeting last night at the Moose club with places set for the usual 30, but with one chair vacant - that of Stanley Potter, one of the co-founders of the organization. All members are veterans of the World War.

Work has been started at Mansfield State Teachers College on a $100,000 water system projected as the first step in a long-range program of material improvement and expansion, which has been worked out by President Joseph F. Noonan and which is designed to place the school in a position second to none as regards physical setup and equipment.
