On Nov. 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address as he dedicated a national cemetery at the site of the Civil War battlefield in Pennsylvania.

25 years ago - 1984

At a recognition dinner for the Troy football team, six members received special recognition: Joe Bulkley, Terry Spalding, Tim Parker, Tom Watson, and Tim Schoonover.

Tom Frazer of Laceyville earned a spot in the cross country national championship meet in December.

Anna Marie Zettlemoyer, a Towanda artist, talked to the Towanda Rotary Club about the philosophy of art.

50 years ago - 1959

At the 12th annual meeting of the Valley Economic Development Association, Ernest Peterson of Sayre was named president.

A store-to-store solicitation will be held by the Retail Merchants Division of the Towanda Country Club to raise funds for this year's Christmas Promotion program.

After taking in 24 new members, the North Rome Pilgrim Holiness Church increased its membership to 65.

75 years ago - 1934

The K.C. Kellogg Coach Line, which goes between Waverly and Towanda, received a new bus, specially built at Dimon Body Works in Rome.

Rev. Levi W. Lunn, rector of Waverly's Grace Episcopal Church, was mistakenly sent a funeral wreath, despite the fact that he's alive and well.

Starting today, patrolmen are to prosecute people who don't have lights on horse-drawn carriages and bikes after dark.
