25 years ago - 1984

The Canton girls' volleyball team had a perfect year, with 16 wins and no losses, earning them the NTL Championship and District IV title.

At the Towanda Middle School Halloween celebration, the winners of the costume contest were: best of show, Becky Cady who dressed as garbage; most original, Diane Vanderpool who dressed as E.T.; scariest, Jeffrey Hunt as a fireman monster; funniest, Amy Aloysi as a chip witch; prettiest, Kim Manuel as Cinderella.

The Sayre Rotary Club donated $2,700, raised by the Rotary Basketball Shootout, to the Bradford-Sullivan Chapter Easter Seals.

50 years ago - 1959

After the election, the Towanda Borough Council is getting three new faces: Ned M. Smith, Michael Muskarenic, and Fred Hatch.

At the Halloween party in Meshoppen, for the pumpkin contest, the prizes were awarded as follows: most original, Paul Jennings and Raymond McGavin; funniest, Annita Breitweiser and Bruce Breitweiser; best story book character, Harold Titman and Patty Dibble; honorable mention, Kennedy Underwood and Bonnie Jennings.

Enlisting in the U.S. Navy for a three-year tour of duty are Miss Evelyn Marie Hibbard, daughter of Mr. Helen M. Knolles of Wyalusing, and Miss Joyce Norma Carpenter, daughter of Mrs. Helen Louise Carpenter of New Albany.

75 years ago - 1934

At the annual Halloween social at the Rome school, prizes were awarded to the following: best dressed, Ruth Stoll; oldest, Mrs. John Joyce; tallest, Charlotte Farrell; smallest, Jean Edsell.

Because of a geodetic survey going on in Towanda, a group of men working in the survey have pitched nine large tents in the back of the Dunbar gas station in Toytown.

Game Warden Edward S. Cranmer gave the local Salvation Army its first deer of the season, which will be distributed to 15 needy families.
